The best tracks by Jim O’Rourke, including tracks from the album produced by Donal Lunny, featuring Davy Spillane.

This album features a collection of songs written between 1981 and 1987. The first group “Rocyn” was a “good time band” and the songs from this period include “Sosej Beans and Chips” and “American Express”.

Later with the Hoelion 8 (The Pillars of Society) band the songs become more political with references to the war in the Malvinas and the “Cowboy in the White House” but still with some fun tunes like “Tomen o Wallt” which describes the problems of growing older and that “hair in the bottom of the bath”. The talents of Brian Breeze and his 1950’s stratocaster are showcased for the first time with a Welsh language band on these tracks.

The highlight of the album though is clearly “Y Bont” (The Bridge) a collection of songs about my links with Ireland. The family connections and the complexities of history as seen either side of the Irish sea are explored with a mix of first class musicians. The rock musicians from Wales included Greg Harries on guitar and Terry Willams just after his period on drums with Dire Straits along with the giants of Irish contemporary music Donal Lunny and Davy Spillane from Moving Hearts who enthralled audiences across Wales on the six day tour which followed the recording of the album in 1987.

These songs are now presented for the first time on CD. It was a privilege and a pleasure to have been able to work with the musicians and engineers whose talents are displayed here. I hope you enjoy the music and look forward to opportunities to perform these songs once again with my new band in 2008.
