In May 1831 miners and others in Merthyr Tydfil rose in rebellion. These events and their causes are never far from Jenkins’s poetic imagination, but this collection of poems also includes poems about drunks, jailbirds, footballers, a mining disaster and Northern Ireland. Payne’s bold, striking colour paintings complement the poems perfectly.
