Jane Ellis’s slim volume of hymns, published in 1816 was the first printed book in Welsh by a woman. The text of the 1840 edition is published here which includes carols and elegies in addition to hymns. Jane Ellis was a country poet and her poems, as a result, have a strong social outlook.
